Im no fan of "Digital Effects" to me DE's are the piano key effects and in some Rah-Xephon amv's ive seen this hexigon effect thats really trippy.
DE's take away the need to actually put effort into syncranising music and action from the anime.
Example:
Without Digital Effects ~ Beat Beat Beat - could be implemented into an amv as *Punch Punch Kick*
With Digital Effects ~ Beat Beat Beat - Some random scene which has nothing to do with the style of audio chosen, however it has this piano key going over this random scene 3 times that sync's with the audio.
Can we all see a difference? I sincerely hope so, DE's are taking away the core of what editing is all about. Instead of putting in the effort to 1: Find the video that matches the style and lyrical content of the music and 2: actually cutting it up and timing it perfectly.
The only effects I think I use are transitions placing one scene over another, it helps in telling your story and is sometimes very professional if used correctly. If the only way to receive 10's and get into the top 10 board on the org means that we need to use effects used in Euphoria and others, then I sincerly hope I never make it. I love the traditional styles in amv's some effects are nice but Euphoria for example just grabs young and adept creaters by the balls and then proceeds to smash our dreams and hopes with a sledgehammer.

That statement saddens me, but this one even more so:CerebralAssamite wrote: DE's take away the need to actually put effort into syncranising music and action from the anime.
If you think that DE's take effort away from both of those, then I would have to say that your idea of what digital effects are actually for is rather skewed, as there are digital effects that take much effort and do both of those.DE's are taking away the core of what editing is all about. Instead of putting in the effort to 1: Find the video that matches the style and lyrical content of the music and 2: actually cutting it up and timing it perfectly.
While that can be true of basic transitions, it by no means is exclusive to that. I have seen many vids that use digital effects to the same extent. The only effects I think I use are transitions placing one scene over another, it helps in telling your story and is sometimes very professional if used correctly
I don't think that you've looked hard enough at that list . . .If the only way to receive 10's and get into the top 10 board on the org means that we need to use effects used in Euphoria and others, then I sincerly hope I never make it.
