I'm using 2.5...
ok, but in that script, you use ".d2v" can I substitute an avi in there? If this is all hopeless, just tell me, and I'll start from scratch to get my d2v's back

yes, VirtualDub was designed to "know the difference" of the file types.

VirtualDub is designed for .avi and MPEG-1 video.
VirtualDudMOD is designed for for those two plus MPEG-2 and VOB video.

The difference between the two are "how they handle the Audio."

Unlike Avisynth, VirtualDub can not be fooled into .avs files; for that, you need
an AVS Editor. 8-)

OK, my chain runs like this:
  • DVD -> hard drive VOB files via ripping
    VOBs -> .d2v via DGIndex
    .d2v -> .avs script
    .avs -> VirtualDubMod
    VirtualDubMod -> proprocessed .avi's
    editing, yadda yadda yadda...
VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod can deinterlace, but most prefer the deinterlacing of AVS.

No, you cannot. The command Kalium used was <b>MPEG2</b>source(), not <b>AVI</b>source().

For loading AVIs, you use the latter. For loading .D2Vs, you use the former.

That's the problem. You shouldn't be making AVIs with DVD2AVI. Make D2Vs instead and serve them with AVISynth, as outlined in the guides to which have already been linked, and of which Kalium gave an example.

Oh yeah, and check out the WMM2 footage-prep guide in my signature, too. Might help you out.

AVS and I do not understand each other, but -hey- that's just me. :wink:

my chain is:
DVD - > smartripper ( removing the micro's ) - > ###.vob on the hard drive.
VOB - > VirtualDubMOD ( deinterlace ) + ( Xvid Quality 100% ) - > ###.avi
-Edit- - > RAW ( .MPEG )
***.mpg - > VirtualDub ( 1.4.10 ) + add the Audio ( using Radion 1.6 ) - > AMV 8-)

Since everyone else seems to be posting their processing chains, I might as well throw in mine...

DVD --> SmartRipper 2.41 --> VOBs
VOBs --> DVD2AVI 1.76 --> .D2Vs
.D2Vs --> AVISynth 2.55 for IVTC and sometimes filtering --> .AVSes
.AVSes --> Adobe Premiere Pro --> HuffYUV AVI
HuffYUV AVI --> AVISynth 2.55 for filtering and resizing (refresh and preview in VDubMod) --> .AVS
.AVS --> VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 --> XviD AVI for distro
.AVS --> TMPGEnc --> MPEG-1 for distro or MPEG-2 for con
