Where do I begin?
The one REALLY noticeable item on the R2 version of
Spirited Away that's NOT on the R1: the excessive red tint. The R1 has the Japanese dialogue track in Dolby 5.1; R2 release had a Dolby 2.0 and a DTS 6.1. But, outside of the sound choices, the only particular problem I have w/ the R1 Spirited Away DVD is an error w/ the seamless branching/alternate angle w/ the original Japanese graphics (they're there, you just have to reset the sound/subtitles once you get past John Lassiter's intro).
The issue about "no cuts or changes" isn't that the rights-holder (Disney) is not allowed to make any changes -- it's that Disney is NOT allowed to make any cuts/changes to the Ghibli films
without consulting with Studio Ghibli (legacy of the
Warriors of the Wind debacle/hack job). Any English translation and script, changes to the music (like in
Kiki), changes to titles -- Disney HAS to check w/ Studio Ghibli first. Even
Studio Ghibli has initiated changes for the Disney releases (the decision to incorporate new music to
Castle in the Sky was Ghibli's choice, not Disney!). If you want to blame anyone for the changes, DON'T just blame Disney.
HELP!! I'm being held prisoner by CLAMP fans!! We Demand -- er, They Demand -- uh, OH, FORGET IT!! It's Fun Here!!
