i have some clips which I've recompressed several times as HUFFYUV but they seem to have lower quality or else there's an unfortunate amount of pixelation introduced in my last stage of compression before putting the stuff online. I did do several progressive scans on the video.
Could that cause the problem? Is HUFFYUV not lossless?
Final output is 29 fps
Data rate 198 kbs
video sample size 24 bit
Video Compression DivX codec
Path to the video is;
http://kong.giantwebhost.com/~char/vide ... 20only.avi
Any insight is appreciated.

Re: Software compression help
HuffYUV is not lossless if you change colorspaces when you compress (but the loss is usually negligible, unless you repeat it a few times). Also, if you use "normal recompress" or "full processing mode" in VirtualDub(Mod), it'll convert incoming video to RGB, which is fine if you're saving an RGB HuffYUV, but not always if you're saving a YUV HuffYUV.wiserd wrote:i have some clips which I've recompressed several times as HUFFYUV but they seem to have lower quality or else there's an unfortunate amount of pixelation introduced in my last stage of compression before putting the stuff online. "Several progressive scans"? Define, please.
You said "or else there's an unfortunate amount of pixelation introduced in my last stage of compression before putting the stuff online" -- as far as I can tell, that is almost certainly it. Have you tried encoding it with a higher bitrate in the DivX settings?

"Progressive scan" is an option in Vegas Video.
It deinterlaces videos.
I was having trouble using a higher quality setting of DivX. Computer wasn't cooperating. I think I also had some clips sneak in that were recordedin Cinepak Radius Codec rather than HUFFYUV ( Since I storyboarded using Cinepak Radius encoded clips. ) I'll try compressing on another machine.
Thanks for your help!
