I've noticed it. I think a major part of it is the "newness" of AMVs when I first watched them. The concept was unlike anything I'd seen before in terms of fanart, and so when I saw a video to a song you like or an anime you like I was just amazed that something so original could be done with those sources. However, after watching hundreds of videos just editing anime to music loses its originality factor, so how much I enjoy the video depends more upon how original the video is in relationship to others.

Been there done that...

I've reaced a point where I just need my AMV-drugs, nomater how crappy they are. OK, we should maby be a little serious... I started of liking AMV's with music I liked, anime i liked or just the generes I like. Then, slooowly I started to enjoy the better edited AMV's. Now I find some of the better edited AMV's quite boring. But in genaral I like most AMV's I watch, more or less... But one thing I really love that is original videos! I'v got 30Gb of AMV's on my computer. Personaly, I think thats little. But I still think that I've seen a few things and I'm always happy to see something totaly new, or atleast new to me!

Gee most of you just seem like you dont give 2 shits about new amv creaters, you only enjoy magical shit that only idiots who sit in front of a digital editing program 24/7 can produce.

Shame on you all, you all once were beginners when creating amvs now you just seem to push it aside and wait for something breathtaking to appear.
So much for even giving the new creater some assistance (with an opinion) on how they could improve their amv's, let alone just watching it to begin with.

in a really off center way of saying this. I know my taste and expectations have increased since I started watching amv's. It takes alot more in order for me to enjoy a video. I find it funny that someones brought this up because I was thinking something somewhat similar (almost the other side of the coin) where I decide to take a look around the AMV announcements forum and check out what I should download depending on who's said good things, how much hype is behind it in that thread. and it feels like that forum is the special olympics forum. Doesn't matter whether you suck or not there are a few people that are gonna say "WOW, what a good job" and hand you a participation medal. I've wound up downloading so many crappy videos that I don't download anymore unless someone sends me a shout saying hey check this out.

I guess it takes alot more than it used to now. :?

Just kidding Kewp, we love you really.

------------------------------------------------

For me, a good AMV will be something that leaves a visualisation in your mind. Say you hear a song playing; you can picture the AMV in your mind, now that I say is a good entertaining AMV.

As for evolving tastes, I have to agree fully. A few years ago I downloaded a Gundam Wing AMV from Kazaa (on dial-up, queue the violins!) The music was Keep Away by Godsmack. Never heard of them.

I grabbed the video simply because I was curious, and wanted to see more Gundam Wing (or what I expected to be the highlights). It was interesting and I wanted more. I later discovered Gundam X. Information on this was dead hard to find (and still is I suppose). Grabbed another music video, surprise surprise it was Moonbaby by Godsmack.

I started to like the music, although I originally just wanted to see it for the anime. A few years later and I now have the 4 Godsmack albums, love their stuff, and have also made an AMV to one of the tracks.

I didn't like metal a great deal at first, but now I thrive on it.

I now frequent here, got to say I've seen some bloody original videos since joining and some highly entertaining videos also. Suffice to say my expectations and personal expectations have increased.

I used to produce AMV's for myself, out of boredom and nothing serious. Since coming here; experiencing the magic and obtaining a copy of Premiere, I try to edit the best I can (though being a premiere n00b and turning out a half decent video, I hope to do some great things when if and when I master the program.

I'm pretty much a run of the mill, no one special creator, but I've got a passion for quality, so I aim to make my videos good quality, and I now aim to make them consistant.

Enough about me already, the fact is anime changed my life, and AMVs are an extension of that, which is why I appreciate all videos (good or bad) providing there is evident effort (and not some episode dump from kazaa etc.)

Shame on us all? Most of my AMV's where made by new(er), or less good creators. And I enjoy many of 'em!

I think maybe you misunderstood my post. I wasn't really refering to "effects" videos, just videos that seamlessly blend the song and anime together. In fact on a basic level doing that actually goes against most "flash bang" style effects. What I'm talking about is more like matching the animation to the beat rather than trying to match effects to the beats. The later of which, while sometimes neat to look at, usually doesn't do much for me. It's like Zero Tolerance's "Toushi", it's a decent video, however most of the fusion between the anime and the music comes from splitting scenes at the beats or overlaying colored frames over the beats, which in my opinion detracts from the quality. Where as in other parts, like where he matches the hand gestures to the beats, that was really good as it wasn't relying on a cheap trick to try and mesh the two together. I'm not saying that you shouldn't use "flash bang" style effects either, just that you should try and excercise a bit of creative ingenuity when it comes to determining HOW they might best be used...rather than just using them because you can't think of some better way to do it.

Here a quick example I just whipped up, no effects at all but it's lined up semi-perfectly (as much as 10 minutes of editing can allow) to the beats (and before you even ask no I'm not making a Naruto AMV).

http://www.backwater-productions.net/_v ... omboom.avi
Size : 1.12mb
Res : 320x240
Codec : Xvid

That's the type of fusion that I'm talking about. Now I think effects can ACCENTUATE that type of fusion, but they shouldn't try and replace it.
