encoding to xvid

Post by Zaphod_Beeblebrox » Mon Aug 16, 2004 8:02 pm

right, i have a problem: whenever i encode something to xvid in virtualdub the sound and video get out of sync, it gets worse as the vid goes on.

Just to clarify: i have a huffyuv video file at pal framerate, uncompressed pcm audio and a 2-pass xvid encode, encoded as per the site guides

as some of you may have seen in my vid called Not Enough, Gau (although probably not), this problem can be rather debilitating, the encode that is up on the doughnut isn't as good as the final huffyuv render would be if it was synced as i edited it: SOMEONE HELP!!!!!!! (please)

Are you using Premiere to edit? If so, it CANNOT edit in 23.976 FPS. It does it in 23.98. When this happens, if you export it as such then try to compress using 23.976, it can throw off the timing slightly at first, but eventually it gets pretty bad. A way around this can be found in the old guides (AD and Ermac's guides, that is). I've never done it, but it goes something like this:

Speed up the audio a minor fraction using the Besweet GUI (the old guides tell the fraction). Edit the video, then compress. Of course I would suggest reading the steps in the guide before attempting this. Oh, and one more thing: I keep saying the old guide because the new one doesn't have this step but mentions it's existance, at least last I checked.

Yes, that is why I went on my 23.976 speil. Notice you offered no help.

Oh, and another thing I figured out today: make sure the sampling rate is the same as the source. For example, I was adding audio today and came up with the same problem. I figured out I was selecting 48000 instead of 44100 by mistake. The reason for this is you have to tell virtual dub to show all selections (it's a check box underneath all of the options for HZ, I just can't remember what it is called). Then make sure you select 44100 if you used CD audio or 48000 Hz for DVD audio.

What part of "PAL framerate" don't you understand?

Well then you're pretty stupid and misinformed. You see, I am a PAL user, being in australia and all, and I can tell you that the PAL framerate is *clears throat*:

25fps!!!!

You never say anything smart anyway, billy_wires. Leave the technical stuff to the big boys, k?

Ah, yes, I remember. Pal is 25, which would be my honest mistake.
Funny how you people obviously know the solution to the problem but are hiding it.

That's right, I remember. You're my next door neighbor. Which is odd, because I use NTSC. Hrm, perhaps we should have a quiz on what I know, then we'll see the tables are turned. A great example would be the metric system vs. the imperial system.

That last part, though, is pretty ironic. Coming from someone who thinks that drinking is a socially acceptable past time to wollow in his own sorrows, that really holds no meaning.

Hey, if the mods haven't deleted it yet, ignore my previous post.

Appearantly the PAL part of it. I just got it confused with the framerate of footage AD recommends.

All I'll say is this: I use NTSC, so it is quite easy to forget PAL framerates, much like it is easy to forget, say, how many grams are in a pound. It's not what I'm familiar with. Also, I'm no AD, but I can offer guidance somewhat until one of the "Big Boys" shows up, so at least I'm trying.

I'm curious, though, did my second suggestion work? If not, can perhaps Scintilla, SS5_Majin_Bebi, or NicholasDWolfwood offer one up? They seem to know it anyway.

A. That was fucking low.

B. That was fucking untrue. :x

C. That had fucking nothing to do with the topic.

D. It also made very little fucking sense.

E. Considering that I hardly ever fucking drink, and I dont do it to wallow in sorrow, as I need no help to do that.

F. You, dear sir are a fucking wankshaft.
