Funny, I've been thinking about this just last night (since I have a very weird feeling about going into some of my next AMV ideas)...

No, it better be a hobby. An artistic hobby, but a hobby nonetheless. Since circumstances ended up making me spend virtually the entire day alone yesterday, and in an AMV-ish mood, I had a bit too much time on my hands to think about AMV ideas and why I do them... My conclusion was, if I feel some kind of pressure to do them, other than just personal enjoyment, if I feel AMV's becoming a way of life for me, I should just drop them for a while or come up with something less pressing.

Seriously, if AMV's were a way of life for me, I'd go insane. They would totally kill my half-dozen other interests, and probably cause me severe mental pain through spending too much time editing (which I still don't enjoy, technically).

Besides, add to that the fact that AMV's have absolutely nothing to do with my life and carreer interests (a language teacher in the short term, probably an academic in the long term. And what I study has little to do with computers or technology, let alone video), nor do they even relate to many of my other hobbies. I still do them every once in a while (usually with long, uninvolved breaks in between to tend to other stuff), and usually because I feel entertained/fascinated by the result, and the creative part of editing. I guess that makes it a hobby
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Kinda similar with me too. Until I started watching AMV's and making them I spent almost the whole day training. Now, it's half sitting and editing and half sport activities. Weird, I always wanted to be some kind of coach, now I'm divided between a programer and being a coach. *shrugs*

For me that's funny because its true. If I had a better job (ie:one that had me working more then ten hours a week) I might not edit at all. But I'd still download and enjoy all your guys'.

I personally consider it just an ordinary hobby, but if I were to be hired at an anime studio or distributer just to make a promotional AMV of an anime that has yet hit the American stores, then what the heck! :D

I find this hobbies, like other hobbies, as an outlet for ideas and things that needs to be put into images or songs. It keeps my mind occupied.
Yeah ... I use a Mac ... it works and I like it.
