3D in Anime
Sorry if there is already a thread like this, I was too lazy to bother looking.
Well, I just saw Armitage: Dual Matrix and got to wondering why Pioneer has all of a sudden gone so computer graphic happy.
I mean, Dual Matrix rocked and all, but some of the scene and backgrounds and their movements were too smooth. I like the graphic quality of less computer generated animes like the first Armitage. Even old animes like Dominion.
Three dimension animation, and we're talking full blown 3D animation, (not cowboy-bebop-really-good-movement-and-3d-animation animation,) does not really belong in anime, because the characters end up animated and it stops there. Like Zoids. Loved the show, hated the animation.
Does anybody else feel this way?

Nah. It's cool with me.
I've been watching Macross Zero lately, and even despite the difference between 3D and anime, I still think it looks mighty good

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Hmmm...perhaps it is just Pioneer then.
Don't get me wrong, I love Pioneer, I just don't like this movement of theirs, was it cheaper or something?

It should be cheaper for things with a lot of action.
I still think lower-budget 3D has ways to go before it really gets it completely right, yeah, but it looks alright for most purposes.
There is a lot of anime fans who are averse to 3D though, so I don't think we have to worry about it all going to 3D too soon yet

Ok, ok. Macross has good CG, that's one, now are there anymore series out there with good CG.

How 3d is Macross anyway?
Is it 3d yet still drawn with outlines and all, or is it full blown three dimensional, no outlines, no cell shading?

I wonder what happened to that project. Seems like they've been working on it for years.
