DVD cover templates.

Post by Castor Troy » Sun Aug 08, 2004 3:29 pm

For those of you who want to make your own dvd covers without having to resort to those crappy dvd cover making programs, I have created dvd cover templates so you can make your own dvd covers :)

DVD cover template in bitmap form (All image applications)

DVD cover template in psd form (Photoshop 8 CS)

There are some important requirements you must be aware of.

* You must have knowledge of how to use layers in photoshop or any of your image programs
* To print, make sure your printer settings are on landscape and choose "minimize margins". If it doesn't come out good the first time, try again. Centering the image might help too.
* Use Photo or glossy paper for the best results
* You will be required to cut these out! I recommend going to kinkos and using their cutting devices for free since they are the most accurate. Unless you have the most precise cutting hands in the universe, I guarantee you will botch it up with scissors.
* Should work on most current printers but I highly recommened laserjets the most.
* I guarantee that this is far more accurate than ANY dvd cover making programs you can find.

The specs for a dvd cover are 778 x 522 (10.806 x 7.25 inches). Remember that the left side is the back, the middle is obviously the spine and the right is the front side.

Hope these help you guys out and hopefully you'll be passing out a nice amv dvd with a cool dvd case at future cons. ;)

I'm currently working on dvd-insert booklets and will have a template and instructions for that in the near future.

I didn't know where to post this but I'm sure the general amv crowd would like to make their own dvd covers... so... :)

This is great, now I just need a way to put some cool art on the DVD itself, got anything for that.

Labels are a far different matter since blank labels come with their own printing program and they work differently.

Forgot to mention that the spine designs can go over the grey line a little bit but not by that much. Try experimenting and printing it out a few times to check. Also be careful printing pure white covers since they may blend in with white paper. Try applying a border around the cover to help.

Not to rain on the party, but Sleevetown.com has the insert and booklet specs for most of the different case styles that they sell. The downside is that the pictures are PDF files and not to scale. But the dimensions are there to make your images with.
