And no, frank sinatra will never be public domain, it's much like bach, someone owns the rights to his music, you can't just use it.
So true...isn't sad sometimes?

But if I was the creator I would happy for the protection.

What a paradox. 8)

Whenever the number of years since Walt's death approaches that period, Disney has their congressmen extended the copyright period. With Disney buying these laws, copyright effectively extends forever. At some point someone will say that it's ludacris, but don't hold your breath.
Disney's dead but his corporation will live forever, or at least as long as we'll have capitalism. :? Why can't Disney corp. own Mickey Mouse forever. Legally, corporations are people, in much the same way the Party was supposed to be infallible. :P

Yes, it's all ludacris [sic]

Not to sound :? but... WHAT?

Explain that to me...
When I wrote that Otohiko hadn't posted yet so I didn't see the need to explain myself since I was directing the question to the creator of the thread. 8)

Yeah, so my spelling's not perfect. Disney, as a corporation, actually doesn't have the right to many of Walts creations, IIRC. The family, however, does. Walts work was not done as work for hire, thus giving the rights to the family instead of the company.

Evangelion was produced in 1996 / 97. So Sinatra was still alive.

Ah, well, if his family is indeed responsible for the rights, then there was obviouly a license permission with some payment to them, and to him since he was still alive.

I really don't know how much they would've asked for, but since Gainax could afford it, I assume it was reasonable. It usually depends on the artist/owner of rights. Hell, some might even give license permission for free, if you ask nicely  (usually not the case though)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
