Wow, I don't feel to good about winning best themed anymore -_-;; .

Meh, if its any consolation, my video got 2nd place in the Drama/Serious catageory (Yes Ashyukun, it was in the finals). So I guess if you take that into account, they didn't give it to some excessively crappy video, just my crappy video :?

You should feel good about winning best theme - your video was great (45's one of the songs that's been stuck in my head since Otakon.) I think it's just that people forgot/didn't know about the award until it was given.

Plus there was the Geoff's Choice award, which might be what Ashyukun was referring to, since that video was not in the finals.

2nd place to Faithless is pretty damned good, AFAIC.

Chris
To paraphrase one Mr. Cool James, please refrain from referring to it as a revival, I've been lurking for ages.

I wasn't meaning to be insulting to any of the videos or their creators- It looks like I got my videos backwards ANTDrakko and it was the 'Geoff's Choice' video that was not shown. If anything, I think that the video he chose for his choice award should have automatically been either put into the contest or at least shown to the full audience- I know a lot of people (including contest/con staff) were confused when it was announced because they had no idea what it was since it hadn't been in the contest screening. If he felt it deserved an award, it more than deserved to be shown to the full audience- I know a number of us consider simply having a video shown to the full Otakon audience and not winning to be worth winning a lesser contest. Your video was perfectly fine- my problem is just with the changes that Geoff made to the contest that sort of threw off the balance that I felt it had before. None of the videos in the contest could really be considered to have been 'crappy', IMO. I won't lie and say that there weren't a few that I thought weren't up to par for the rest of the contest (and no, I'm not saying which- besides, judging from certain reviews it would seem some would consider mine to have been one of them), but I don't think it would be fair at all to call any of the videos in the contest 'crappy'.

Hey, thanks :)
Do that, keep me in the radar, *hint* AWA Pro ;) Though it's something totally different from the 3 you saw, I need a slight change from dance :P
In any case, your video was very well done. Specifically it was very tightly edited. You rarely missed a dominant beat or rhythm and the video was very dynamic and active. Sadly you were in (debateably) the most competitive category (imo) and thus it was hard to choose a winner.
Well, thanks again. And yes, as soon as I saw the names vicbond and kusoyaro and all the others on the upbeat-finalists I knew this will be nearly impossible. But I was glad being a finalist and not to win anything.

First off, I believe Bobbyukun was referring to the second Geoff award (yours was theme) in that it wasn't in the contest.

Secondly, I think a number of us are a bit annoyed that the coordinator made-up two awards and was the sole judge. I recall him saying we might have an artistic and technical award, but never said how we'd judge it and so on. At the award ceremony he says something like "And my awards go to" and we all went "WTF?" When he chose a video not even in the contest, we were a bit perturbed, especially since he never mentioned said awards.

I am in Pro as well and will keep an eye out. I'd say your vids, silver_moon's and a couple others have been some real gems I might've missed out on this year. I watch AMVs rarely, but the few times I do, it sometimes pays off.

IIRC you still did fairly well vote wise. I don't have exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure you made a strong standing. Also, "names" don't always win awards. I've seen plenty of "no-names" win awards and make impressive videos. In fact, your videos and that of other foreigners (istiv I believe is in France?) is really starting to make me realize how much talent is outside of North America.

But yeah, don't get discouraged by "names" and such. I didn't. ;) The audience sees the video more than the editor behind it. There is maybe *one* name I think that audiences will get all hyped up about prior to the video. You gotta keep in mind that con audiences aren't as informed as we are.

I was a little disapointed in the Trigun one, I thought it could have been done better. Mostly because I had the same idea for a while, and the creator just didn't live up to it completely to the vision I had in my head. I felt it could have been stronger.
Could have been stronger? Howso? I've actually gotten that response by a few people but nobody ever tells me "how" .

I really hope people don't say "You need more effects and faster cuts" because thats what I was stearing away from. I didn't want people to be star-struck by purdy effects. I wanted them all to catch the meaning , or "Theme", of what I was trying to portray.

However, if its the certain scenes I was showing, which better scenes should I use? I was pretty confident that the scenes I used portrayed my theme of conflict with Vash.

I'm not being sarcastic, I'm trying to figure out why I get this response every time but nobody answers why. ::begs:: I wanna become a better creator, Help me the Org-won-kenobi, yer my only hope......

Actually That probably sounded harsher than I ment it to be, Specifically, I had higher expectations of it just from seeing the anime/song choice. I think it had more potential than you took advantage of. I'd have to see it again to specifically pick out what bothered me about it, But I beleive it was a combination of scene choices and in some areas I felt editing could have been tighter. Don't get me wrong, it was still a nice video overall, just not quite what I was expecting, and I felt some of the other videos in the category were stronger. I'll try to give a real opinion on it later when I am able to download it, to give you a better idea. But it is just my opinion. aparantly the audience felt diferently, since you came in second ;p

All the videos I felt deserved to be in the finalists though. Though they were "Fun" videos, the last 3 entries to comedy did feel weak in comparison, as far as humor goes, just going off of audience reaction to them on the friday block. I did particularly enjoy Hale's mom though. I need to check out that series.

Well, I'm not afraid of names, but I know that those names can do very well :)
And yep, the AMV scene in Europe grew instantly in the last years, here are pretty much large contests, various communities and studios etc.
We are coming to get you

As far as studio names go, I give up. Even after I told John that I wanted my "studio" name to appear on the screen, it never happened.I guess it's for the best. Things happen for a reason. Ill just stick with my full name from now on.
