Hellsing

Post by DarkMassacre » Mon Jul 26, 2004 1:24 pm

I've heard a bit about this anime. Could anyone tell me what it is about? If it sounds good enough I may just buy a DVD or two. If I like it I can just get the box set. Theres no rental place in my entire county that has anime. I may just but Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Twilight of the Dark Master too since I can't find anywhere to rent them. I here that Ghost In the Shell and Akira is really good. Also what kind of language and nudity are in Hellsing. I just don't want my mother walking in on any certain parts.

Okay, so there's this group in England called the Hellsing <s>Organization</s> <s>Organisation</s> Or-ga-<b>NI</b>-sa-tion, led by "Sir" Integra Wingates Hellsing, and their aim is to keep England safe from the undead menace. And to aid them in such an endeavour, they employ the vampire Alucard, who apparently has been their servant for quite a while now and enjoys working for his human masters more than you might think. He's got quite a superiority complex and loves ridding the earth of vampires he doesn't consider "true" or "original" vampires.

Enter Seras Victoria, a mild-mannered police girl who loses all her teammates to a ghoul attack, gets captured by the vampire who was responsible for it, gets saved by Alucard, receives the choice to either die or become a vampire, and chooses to become a vampire -- all in the first episode (so I don't consider this to be a spoiler). Throughout the rest of the series, she's got to come to terms with her new identity, a process that sometimes has some amusing results.

There's also the Vatican's own vampire disposal squad, Section XIII Iscariot, and the Scottish Paladin Anderson who works for them, and their occasional run-in with the Hellsing Organisation (I love the slightly overdone Protestant vs. Catholic theme)... and the Valentine Brothers, a pair of vampires bent on razing Hellsing to the ground... not to mention the mystery of why so many vampires have suddenly been popping up recently (though none of them seem to be capable of putting up that much of a fight).

It's fun. Not very deep or thought-provoking, but fun.

There isn't much nudity ( not that i remember about that) but there is a lot of BLOOD. The language is ok, except for an episode which is full of beeps. That was very amusing for an anime to hear only beeps whenever the vampire was swearing.

Which one was that? I watched the dub and heard no beeps... just the very foul-mouthed (and extremely funny) American-punk-style vampire, Jan Valentine. :D

Beeps??? Was that action channel or something? I never heard any beeps.

Anyway, Hellsing is great. It's stylisticly composed, atmospheric and has great cool action. Plus good music.

My one problem with the show is that the story is not very linear. They should have followed the awesome (and somewhat deeper, not to mention more climactic) story of the manga more. But I'd definetly suggest watching the show, it's good fun.

I'll probably get the first DVD off of amazon and see how I like it. I have a feeling I will since I like vampires, gothic stuff and anime
