Membership time limit

Post by Lone Wolf » Thu Jul 22, 2004 7:52 pm

Everyone has heard how there's a couple hundred thousand members and only a small fraction of those people are actually active, not only in the forums but also in uploading AMVs, making journals on the main page, and other things.

I really do think that memberships that have been inactive for, say, over two years should be cleared. It will make it a lot easier to find other members (I know there's the members search function but what if you don't really remember the name that well? I've actually gone page by page through the members list by the thousands looking for someone. :x ) and it will allow new users to have more choices for the names of their accounts (It will clear names that are taken that a new member wants.).

Welcome to the largest, most comprehensive catalog of Anime Music Videos and related bullshit on the internet. Think of it like this: the library doesn't take books off the shelf and out of comission because they haven't been checked out in 2 years. Ponder that and get back to us.

Actually the library does occasionally remove books that haven't been checked out for two years if they need the space. However the org doesn't currently need the space, at least not yet, and the analogy to checking out a book would be a download rather than logging in so your point isn't changed, I'm just being pedantic.

i agree with lonewolf. there is no need for someone haveing a user name who hasnt loged on for say even one year. especialy if the person has no amvs and only like 3 or 4 posts. this would allow for easier searching and more member names for new members. i really think this is a good idea, and im almost positive i suggested it months ago but it got turn down becouse 'members might come back' or 'its not necessary' or something :? .

Of course, only accounts that haven't been logged into for 2 years and have not made any contribution to the site would be cleared. If someone submitted a video years ago and never logged back in, his/her account would be ok so that the video could be kept. Forum and journal entries, however, can be overlooked. There's many people with a total post count that I can count on one hand.

It must be really hard to develop a unique screen name.

I think it would be a good decision insofar as to get rid of duplicate accounts. But that has been mentioned before.
