Enlighten me on Kevin Caldwell

...um, yeah. Heh.

Anyway. I've been wondering more about him recently, so this thread and the info files are very much welcomed.

For me, the Magnetic Rose video and Engel's timing are both amazing; especially the lip synch in Engel, since he didn't seem to use any copy/paste of individual frames, just found clips that match up as-is. Learned quite a bit already just studying his videos(and some others as well, of course).

I've never liked messing with special effects much, so seeing such good videos made without them helped a lot in deciding not to use them much. If I can't do it quick and simple in Photoshop, I don't need it. Screw the effects.

Caldwell once created a human clone monster and named it koop... it was evil and it mutated out of control...

Explain Asuka yelling at Shinji over the com link, then. Right before she starts, you can tell the clip's been slowed down.
I find it hard to believe that the lip synch simply matched up without any editing, when it's clear from his other effects that he had the capacity to be copying and pasting frames like everyone does now.

Mainly because back in the day, he WAS the shit. Nowadays, he doesn' match up. For the past 3-4 years I've consistantly seen stuff that kicks the crap outta what he did.
Its like sports heros, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb are considered legends, but guys like Eckstien and Sosa could eat them alive.
And the thing about Kevin is, the bar will continue to be raised and how much better than him the current contest level editors are will continue to increase, but people will STILL think he's a legend.
Is it a bad thing, I dunno. I don' care either so bleh to it all.
