Sell me on....Cannibal Corpse?
This is an attempt to make a more valid discussion than "I hate metal, you suXX0rs".
Can someone explain Cannibal Corpse to me? Is there a deep, redemptive or otherwise important message in their lyrics that I'm just missing? Do they SOUND good (having never heard them, only having read a few lyrics pages)? In fact, I could probably call out a few more 'death metal' bands here, but I don't want this too out of control.

Bah CC dont suck, well after Vile they do but if you do wanna sample of them get Hammer Smashed Face or Gutted or Innards Decay its a good sound.
Six Feet Under well id say their only good album so far is Maximum Violence, im working on an amv compilation with those 2 bands in it, give me another week ill send you a link in PM.
P.S im no good at selling anything, i cant get any over if my life was put on the line, so listen for yourself if you like it, cool, if not well its not for everyone.

Cannibal Corpse are more or less the first of the 'gore metal' bands currently typified by Exhumed, and are pretty much lyrically void. There's no message there. Occasionally the music is decent, but you really have to *see* it performed rather than hear it; Pat O'Brien's guitar work on "Sentenced To Burn" (a personal fave) is godlike, but you don't really get his fingerwork just listening to the music.Sousaphonist wrote:Can someone explain Cannibal Corpse to me? Brutal death as a whole, though, should definitely not be written off. Vital Remains and Nile do some amazing stuff with the general boundaries of the form, and then there's always the good old Carcass (Heartwork and Swansong are where to go for deep messages in your brutal death). Death's jazz-influenced "brown period" albums are masterpieces even with explosive blastbeats and slicing vocals, and Hypocrisy and Dismember's policy of melodic leads over roaring grooves laid the foundation for the less brutal modern Swedish scene.
Brutal death, much less death metal as a whole, does not begin or end with CC. Unfortunately, they're almost always the first death band that people are exposed to. Well, them and Deicide, who have sucked for most of the last 10 years.

OK, I was just curious. I figured there had to be a reason people liked them.
