Video Editing Software
Hi all.
I made my first 3 vids with Windows Movie Maker, ad I was happy that it was free, easy, and allowed me to enter into this fun hobby.
Anyway, I'm looking to try some more advanced software, and I was wondering if there was anything cheap (read: free) that I could use? I understand Adobe Premiere is really good but expensive.... I'm just wondering if there's an open source program out there that's possible to do the kind fo editing I need to do in.
Is it possible to do this stuff in Virtual Dub?
Thanks in advance for your advice, even if it's just "lay down the money for real software".

Virtual Dub is for editing your source footage, and working with final copys of amv's, not for compiling clips and audio to make a music video.
Premiere is a bit pricey, but if you are a student you can get a MEGA discount on it. I dont know much about that, but someone else may know.
Im guessing your using Windows Movie Maker right now, so im guessing thats not a choice ^^
Here is a thread full of editing software prices and reviews, i hope this helps...

(I feel a little shameless linking to my profile, but it's the only convenient place where my list of recommended F/OSS products exist.)

OOH OOH, I KNOW THIS ONE. Yes, if you are a student you can get programs that usually run $600-$800 for around $200. The catch is that the version you are getting is setup where anything you make is licensed by the company of the software you are using, basically meaning, you can't sell it. But I am almost positive you can distribute it freely to anyone you want. The best place to find this kind of program is at a college book store where students get their supplies. At least, that's where I got my programs. I couldn't tell you anywhere else they sell student editions of programs, but somebody else might know.Premiere is a bit pricey, but if you are a student you can get a MEGA discount on it. virtualdub can be used to make a video (no fades or layers though). better if used in combination with avisynth (which can do fades and layers).

Huh?! Anything you make, you have copyright over (see Title 17 USC Sec. 201), and thus you can sell if you want. The only way you could not have copyright over it is if its (a) a work for hire or (b) you transfer the copyright. A copyright transfer must be "in writing and signed by the owner of the rights conveyed or such owner's duly authorized agent." Qua? I could have swore that the reason the student edition is so cheap is because of the copyright thing. At least that is what I was told. I could very well be wrong. Come to think of it I don't even remember who told me that.
Hey if I'm wrong it's all the better, ESPECIALLY for me (Graphic Art could really sell).
Well either way I will check and I hope that derobert will help me find that info. I'm just trying to make sure you don't get screwed.
