Has there ever been a successful Southern accent in dubs? Take Kitsune from Love Hina. I know J-0080 swears by the dub, but watching just one ep... it just sounded too campy, like the VA tried too hard. It wouldn't be so bad if they had an actual southerner do the voice. Would that be so hard?

Well, Asuka sounds horrible too.
And as for bad fansubs... eh, I haven't seen many. Even a horrible fansub that mistranslates everything and does NO names right is better than dubbed YuGiOh, so I'm happy.

Apparently the people at www.animenewsnetwork.com think so (and yes, they're referring to AD)...Trident wrote:Has there ever been a successful Southern accent in dubs?

And yes, I thought Kitsune's voice was fine. The only one that bothered me at all was Mokono's...it sounded too much like Poco's from Arc the Lad.

Good thing I like dubs...
In any case, the only reason I can come up with is that digifansubbers have more time to do cooler stuff and check their works. [which is really sad since the commercial people can't even do karaoke fun stuff to their opening intros due to copyrights]
I'm kind of against this kind of ban however since by not buying commercial releases at all, you're just stealing the anime AND/OR not paying the original producers for their work.
I do expect quality work to come out and such, but things can happen...
My $0.02.
