Because I'm STILL asking it to myself.

Exactly what goes down between the time the frames of the anime are animated, to the time Manga gets ahold of the DVD, does it go from progressive full frame footage, ot interlaced to hell and back washed out horseshit? I'd think it easier and time saving to just make the DVD's progressive. But what the hell do I know. Basically me question is," Why do they interlace it?"
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

I think a lot of that has to do with being made for TV.

Or maybe they think it looks better for some bizarre reason.

Or maybe (my personal inclination) they just hate us.

Because they use shitty digital mastering from the film which includes a bad telecine process and crappy colour sampling.

Then they go and put it into an mpeg2 encoder and select options are random before encoding it.

That's my experience of Manga Video dvds at least.

I think they have the "enshittify" option defaulting to true.

the mastering process is what I'm wondering about most. All anime these days is done didgitally. The people who did Kids Story for the animatrix used Premiere, for example. Yet somehow during the mastering process someone trips over something and "oops! it's interlaced! my bad!".(not the animatrix, just didgital anime in general.)

Alien 9 was done digitally... that doesnt mean CPM wouldnt fuck it up.

You see, they used analogue transfer so they could put on the HARD SUBTITLES for onscreen events. This analogue transfer, with such sharp digital images cause RAINBOWS AND DOT CRAWL EVERYWHERE.

Fucking morons... and manga are more inept than they are.

It would be extremely nice if everyone cared about quality so much. I just finished a script that renders at 2fps. ;_; I would not have had to do this if it was well encoded from the start.

Left is with filtering/right is original.... but that is blatently apparent

They couldn't import the indevidual frames into premiere and use use premiere to put the subs in? They needed an analouge transfer?
