Informal poll - do you upload before you premiere?

Post by rogueintellectproductions » Fri May 21, 2004 4:34 pm

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I wanted to get a sense of the prevailing philosophy in re:

If you make a video for a con's AMV contest, do you upload the video to the site before or after it shows at the con?

I prefer to hold out until after my videos are shown, but I am just itching to put my new video up to get some ops before Otakon (after all, there's no guarantee that it'll even show).

What do you all do?

Because my server is a piece of crap, I upload before the con. I upload to the .org after the con though.

I don't make videos for any specific contest. I'd hate to have some deadlines putting pressure on me. I just put a video together when I feel like it, and submit to a couple of cons if I deem the final product worthy. :)

i put it up after a con so no one can say that they have already seen it. if i am present there and it gets shown in a contest i want to see the people's first reactions to the video. this way i can see if people get something out of it.

I'll usually put it up locally whenever I'm finished with it, and upload it to my own server for a direct link after the convention. Of course, that's only if it's being sent to a convention in the near future; if it's the off-season I usually put both links up at once.
It doesn't really matter that much though, since in my experience, very few of the congoers attending the AMV contests are active on the .org, and therefore even fewer have seen whichever video I've submitted. So it's still something new to the majority of the audience.

For my first vid, I uploaded after the contest. I think I'll do it the next time, as well. Who knows. If I win, there might be some suspence. ...no wI just have to win a contest.
This is a painlessly short sig.

I don't make videos for contests. Hell, I've been doing AMVing for two years plus a few months by now, and have only entered one contest in that time. So I'm not really qualified to answer this question, but I will anyway because I am a pretentious fuck. >_<\m/

I just upload the videos when I get them done. IF I WERE to decide to enter a video into a contest (assuming I had not decided to enter after already uploading the video and announcing it and all that), I am honestly not sure which I would choose. They both have benefits and downfalls.

I'd probably put it out here first, most likely. Give people time to find every little flaw so they can (hopefully) make a more informed choice at voting time.

Well, I uploaded mine about 3 months before Acen. Of course, I was hoping to do a different video for the con I submit to but that didn't work out so I had to drag out something old. If I knew I was definately going to submit a video to a con I'd probably hold off and upload later. Not that it makes much difference, when only a couple hundred people worldwide download and watch my video the odds of many of them being at the con is fairly low.

Thanks for the input, and for pointing out a third point - that people don't make videos for contests. I have a few that I'm working on that I don't plan to enter in any contests that'll go up once I'm done with them.

The fact that the nmber of people that will see my video here compared to at Otakon has made up my mind with naota's lament. Take a look at the announcements forum for the link!
