Re: An upbeat song with a softer tone.
Well, let's see... If I'm reading you right from what you've said so far, what you're looking for is a song that pats you on the back instead of slapping you in the face, and picks up around the end. It's also supposed to be sort of tragic.spike spiegel121 wrote:Alright...the only song I can think of is Frou Frou's - I must be dreaming. I would like a song with a soft tone that has speeding up from slow parts. And gets more energetic. If anyone could help me out I'd be grateful.
Have you considered looking through stuff like your parents' music? A lot of the golden oldies are softer and more subtly emotional than the stuff you get from today's bands.
I haven't seen Evangelion, so I'm not sure what kind of tragedy you're looking for, but the old songs had plenty of crying over the breakup of romances and that sort of thing.
You could try some Simon and Garfunkel songs, since they came out in the more pessimistic 1970s. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" starts soft, gets more energetic at the end, and is apparently about trying to comfort someone who's suffered terrible tragedies.
If you're into some REALLY soft jazz, there's the Fleetwoods' "Mr. Blue" about a guy who's apparently in love with a girl who won't behave herself. It picks up as it goes along, but only a little.
The Beatles also made a rather mysterious song that sounds awfully dramatic (about what, I'm not sure) and could be interpreted as tragic: "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." It has a kind of build-up effect in it.
The 1980s had a few good grieving songs, too, such as "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. (Someone used a cover of that for an AMV; trust me, the original is better) It's gentle, has a build-up effect, and the pleading in it sounds kind of tragic.
Another really excellent pleading buildup: "Stranded" by Heart.
Dunno... There might be others, but I need a better idea of what you're looking for here before I can suggest any more.
