Dear cloud clone,BrsrkEva and others...[homemade Bebop game]

Post by blueshogun96 » Wed Apr 28, 2004 8:26 pm

It's been months since I've been to this forum (like anyone really cares), and some people wanted me to keep them updated on how my Bebop game is going so far. Oh yeah, and sorry for asking for things that are illegal here. Please forgive me. I'm new to forums and I really didn't know any better. I promise not to do it again. And another thing, the music is NOT what I wanted. I just wanted the movie clips, that's all. Anyway, so far I've been looking for 3D models of guns (in .3ds format) and other props such as buildings, cars, bystanders, etc. I found alot of these at www.3dcafe.com. Some models I'm gonna have to try and make myself, such as a model of Vicious. I can already predict that some of the character models may not look very good. Getting the models and 3D objects I need is the easy part. The hard part is the coding. I'm thinking about making the game open source so anyone can see and modify it as they please. Because I'm still in the process of learning DirectX (which can't be learned overnight), this is gonna take a LONG time, but I'll get to it. If I was using OpenGL, this would be much easier and take less time. It would be great if I acually knew of some game programmers where I live that could give me a hand so I can get done faster, but I'm all alone in this industry because everyone is either too lazy or too scared. Since I'm in college, I'll really have a shotage of time to work on it. Even though I normally don't watch TV till 10:00 PM Central, I'll try to cut down on the re-runs for more time because I'm that dedicated to making this game. I'll try my best to give you maximum compatability for those of you who have poor graphics on your PC. For instance, I'm sure that alot (or maybe most) of PC's don't support things like Multitexturing, bumpmapping, mipmapping, RGB overlays, Hardware Acceleration, etc. The list goes on and on. I'll make sure you can disable these things if neccissary. Compatibility with joystick and controllers is a must. Hopefully, I can get a demo working so you can get a little taste of it. I'll do the best I can. I only have one life. 8)

Sweet! My name got mentioned in the topic subject! Whooo!!! Ha-ha-ha! Anyhow, thanks for takin' the extra step to keep us up-to-date w/ what's goin' on. Having the option to turn off the extra graphic enhancements is a great idea, whereas most games made for the comp today either dumb it down for the lowest common denominator, or the people without awesome hardware just have to deal. = / Bravo for enginuity!

When it's done, I'll make a list of the Minimum requirements. Feel free to make suggestions anytime.

Isn't someone making a Penny Arcade video game? Maybe you could email them and ask for tips, or something.
Another pointless post!

Thanks for your reply, but I have no Idea what language that person is using, for instance, VisualBasic, C, C++, C#, ASM, etc. I'll ask that person.
