And Ari is the queen of cheesy effects, so listen to her.Arigatomyna wrote:Transitions like these are attention getters.

Completely correct right there.Corran Productions wrote:Fades to black and cross dissolves do wonders for slow drama videos.
Why else would everyone love Feanor so much?
The only comment I ever recieved as about having a weird transition at the end of 'We were meant to live, Jeri'. It has several strange musical sumbols appear in black, criss crossing until they eventually take up the entire screen.

Canned transitions are VERY tricky to use properly since, well, any editor worth anything knows that "drag and drop" trix are usually done in about what, 2seconds of wasted time?
Most of them never looked good anyway... I'd say for transitions, go for the opaque rubberbands or what not that works with your editing programs. [fading to black is not that "advanced" of a trick but can do the job when placed properly]
Fading into the next scene also allows for a more smoother approach then a solid cut which just "hammers" into your viewer...

Rotating star wipes...with feathered, fluttering edges...accelerating to a full screen flashes....Castor Troy wrote:Starwipe.
This thread makes me nervous. The project I just completed uses organic vapor wipes. And something else too silly to give away right now. It won't be available until it's had a chance to torture some contest judges.

I used to tell Beef (my former studio partner) all the time to try not to use cross fades if you don't have to (not because I don't like cross fades, in actuality using a simple cross fade properly can enhance a video tenfold) but Beef needed to stop using them. He made an action video using nothing but cross fades.Corran Productions wrote:Fades to black and cross dissolves do wonders for slow drama videos.
I thought this was a great action video. And it rely's almost solely on cross-fades. So, it all depends on the situation.
