Premiere can't read my AVIavs or AVI files

Post by kiarrens » Thu Mar 25, 2004 12:42 am

I'm using video game footage for the first time in this vid, and I'm running into problems. I hope someone can help me. :(

First of all, all the problems are FF7 and FF8 footage related. I used PsxMC to rip the FMVs off of the discs and saved them as AVIs (one as HUffyYUV as a test and the others as the Indeo 5.1 codec, or something like that.) So now I've got 80 AVIs. I wrote AVS for them all and imported them into Premiere. So far, so good.

I drop the clips onto the timeline. I run a preview. Looks fine. So I render the timeline. And then, suddenly, all I see is black video. I tried importing the AVI files and using them instead of AVS, and encountered the same problem. Can anyone tell me what's going on here please? I spent a lot of time ripping all the files and writing the AVS, I really don't want to have to do it all again.

(btw, I'm running Premiere 6.5, if that helps)

That is a strange problem. The avis wont appear on the timeline either? Try rebooting and see if anything happens :|

This is what it looks like... http://www.myimgs.com/data/kiarrens/premiere1.jpg

I think I might have figured it out. The huffyYUV one seems to work alright, so I guess I'll just have to redo all 80 rips...

Well, future reference for anyone else out there... Indeo 5.1 AVI codec and AVISource avs script aren't good bed fellows.

I don't think you really need to import your files through avs. Was there any particular reason that you are doing this? Seems like an unnecessary extra step (in this case).

I agree. I usually do the AVS step before hand (mainly for IVTC, sharpen, bicubicresize, etc) and then import as Huffy. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. Try skipping the AVS step and you might get a better result than using the AVS step (cause all you have in it is a source line)

encoding 80 clips in huffyuv is like seting a hungry eva onto an angel. huffyuv'll eat your hdd like theirs no tomorow. huffyuv encodes about 15GB for 25minutes (or so ive heard) so ya beter have some beefy disks.

oh and, dont encode in indeo , cause most people dont actualy have the latest version (seeing as ya gota pay for it, and thiers no addware alternative) and well, ive heard it kinda suxorz (actualy i just made that last bit up)
