No, seriously. I've always been interested in what temporal sharpening would look like during high-motion scenes, but I've never seen an actual implementation of it.

Do you even understand how sharpening works... or how a temporal filter works?

Ask and ye shall receive... http://lags.leetcode.net/TemporalSharpener.zip
This increases the difference between temporally adjacent pixels by 25%. This should also answer your questions about why there are no other temporal sharpeners. Enjoy.

Temporal Sharpener - the Black Monarch wanted a temporal sharpener, so I whipped one up to show him why he really doesn't.
How long did that take you?

I had a feeling someting like that would be the case.

Interesting enough, if you max out the temporal smoother you get a similar effect.

So I guess it's a built in function :o

Took maybe 15 minutes, I had been playing with a temporal smoother earlier so it was a fairly simple matter to change the code from decreasing differences to increasing them.

AD: To answer your questions, yes and yes.

Madbunny, people figured out LONG ago that extreme temporal smoothing caused ghosting :)

Well, I was just thinking that you could make a really cool-looking reverse ghost/emboss effect to add a little more "snap" to technical videos... I'm currently experimenting with flashes of high-relief, low-contrast color emboss synchronized to drum beats, and wishing that something similar could be applied to only the moving parts of a video clip.

I guess the biggest problem would be that so many anime clips would actually be running at only 12 frames per second...
