vdub compression

Ok, following the guides for a simple 2 pass encode, my first pass without audio ends up around 25 megs. Adding the audio back in for the 2nd pass (changing no audio to AVI audio) thumps up the file size by more than 40 megs. What the hell is going on? Tried various methods of compression in the audio setting too, but everything seems to always spew out 70-75 meg files. =/
