Hey,

Hosting WIP here is out of the question. People who have requested video deletions because "I didn't like them anymore" or "it is a newbie video"are rejected. In fact, most deletion requests are rejected. The catalog is meant to list every AMV ever created and released to the public. If you release a "beta" video to the public and put it in the catalog, it stays there. If people want to look stupid by uploading crap incomplete videos even though they aren't supposed to, people are welcome to look stupid. If it gets bad, perhaps there will be a rule against it in the VCAs. But if people do the right thing here, there will be no problems.

What would be discussed in the WIP forum? How does this not fit into the existing "AMV Announcements" or "Opinion Exchange" or "Video Help" sections? Are you as an AMV creator just being a crowd whore and need more direct contact with the crowd?

Reviews are for finished completed works, not works in progress; that is what email and instant messaging is for. If you say to yourself, "to me, this is a good and completed video", then the review is important (if you even care about them).

It seems to me that a note in the "AMV Announcements" or "Opinion Exchange" forum like this woudl be fine:
note wrote:Hey Everyone, I'm wraping up a vid with [anime] set to [music], but I would like some quick feedback before I release it to the general public. If you're interested, please PM or email me and I'll send you the link.
That should just about do it. No need to change the system. Or am I missing something?

Phade.

well putting it that way is another good example of the exsisting forum discriptions needing to be re writen. if i had know that WIP could be announced in the anouncments forum, i wouldent have started the thread.

however, the idea here is to have a central place for cretiques of projects in the works. Beta exchanges happen on AIM all the time, but the target audence is very VERY limited. in almost two years here on the org i have found on chat programs a grand total of 5 people that i can send betas to. the fact the curent chat room has degeraded into total crap, i refuse to hand out betas in their, cuz no one in their even cares anymore.

i have never really seen people handing out Betas in eather the OP exchange or anouncment, as both of thos forums are looked apon as for finnished works. you finnish an AMV, you anounce it in the anouncments forum, then go to the OP exschange for reviews. the very fact the site has an OP exchange is profe that we are all "just being a crowd whore".

hosting beta's on the org is out of the question, but orignising it should be very easy with little effort and almost NO draw away from the site's design or goal. as it has been said, just a forum labeled WIP would be enough, maybe adding a link on the members page to a page explaning what WIP is, some of the rules about reviews, and a link to the forum, or just a link on the memebrs main page to a sticky in the WIP forum explaning the rules.

quick and easy. ill even write up all the rules and moderate the forum for you if you want.

[Xeno]Things like "do you think the effects/clip flow well with the music, or should i consider a change or rearangment" or "hey, i like your opining, however, to make the footage do that with out that anoying side effect, do this...." and thus the creator gets things fixed BEFORE its uploaded.[/xeno]

[Xeno]The curent forums about AMV help, anouncments and Opinion exchanges pretain only to finnished works.[/xeno]

[Xeno]scarscazim aside, i think that creators and fans are too far apart as it is, this will alowe some more interaction between the two. this honestly cant really hurt anyone, unless their ego is so large they cant take some critizem[/xeno]

just wanted to answer your questions directly ^_^

Phade wins.

I understand what it is that you're trying to do. Valid input is essential in the video making process. If you're not part of a studio, I'd recommend that you get together with a studio and submit your 'beta' footage. Burn it on a CD or whatever. But if you look at it logistically, (by the numbers)

The whole upload/download time and effort would either A: leave a gaping hole in server security, or B: overextend server bandwidth, which, like Phade mentioned, is probably at it's limit. I vote no. Why? Too many ops before it's done will influence your vid so that it is not, in fact, your vid, but is a result of everyone's ops. that's making one to order, and I would call everyone who does that stupid. you make them for yourself.

Update your progress in your journal, if you like, but please, don't ask for server space.

Hey,

The problem = time and priority

There are many many more things on the list of stuff that needs to be done that are higher priority than creating and maintaining a WIP section. The current system allows enough room for WIP requests to be handled easily with no additional changes to the system.

If you would like to write up a forum post that explains all that needs to be done in the AMV Anouncements or Opinion Exchange, it can be made sticky. But please be sure to note that no WIP work should be entered into the catalog at any time. We already have enough "I started on the project then lost interest / hard drive crashed / other lame excuse" video entry deletion requests as it is. The catalog is only for finished complete AMVs.
