Can anybody tell me the name of the song that shinji always plays on the Cello? (if it is indeed the cello?)

The cello piece is entitled "Childhood memories, shut away" and can be found on the Third OST. Another arrangement can be found on the Death & Rebirth OST entitled "Suiten fur violincello solo". I can't recall at the moment if it is an actual piece of classical music, I believe it is.
