Orgy, NIN, Gravity Kills are NOT metal.

They are different. They're one of the only groups to use dual vocalists well.

By this time ithaqua has made it pretty clear to me that Orgy is electro-rock.
I could probably drive him insane if I asked what genre Orgy is again

Some NIN is.
The "Fixed" EP, some of "Further Down The Spiral" and a few other odds and ends.

I feel shamed.

Although I was wondering - do metal fans count Ministry as a metal band now? I don't think they've been industrial since "Psalm 69" came out.

Now what I'd like to know is how come a metal band can do clearly non-metal-sounding songs and still be given credit as metal, but a primarily non-metal band that does metal songs will automatically be disregarded as non-metal.

I remember that discussion coming up for my beloved King Crimson, and I still promise to strangle anyone who tells me a number of their pieces, from Red to Level Five, are not metal at heart

The majority of the music performed is not metal. Finntroll did a classical-like song, but are they considered a classical artist?

No, I don't mean artist! Of course not...

I mean, metal songs, not metal artists, sort of how like ithaqua said some NIN is. Don't at least several songs for them count as metal songs? Or, is there other causes for this

Perhaps, but I have never heard a NIN song that would be considered part of the metal genere. NIN Doesn't even have (m)any metal elements. Perhaps some recomendations are in order.
