Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi

Post by Jason 00 » Mon Feb 09, 2004 3:19 am

I have just got my hands on the second volume in the series and I must say I have not laughed this hard in while. The series is produced by Gainax and distributed by ADV films. From the accents they give the two main characters Armui and Sasshi to the little goblin that sends them from one crazy world to the next. This is definitely one messed up series!

That's okay, it's not like they'll see it anyway...

I'm still on the fence about the show (although I only have volume 1 at the moment). The animation strikes me as very FLCL-like. The whole "each episode is a different genre" thing is very Excel Saga-like. Unfortunately, it feels like it's lacking that special something that FLCL and Excel Saga had.

But maybe I'll think differently after I get Volume 2...

Personally, I love it. But any show that parodies Yamato, Herlock, Voltron, Force Five (whatever that was called in Japan) and 2001 in the same episode gets a big AOK from me.

Naturally... When was the actual release date in the US? It won't be hiotting Australian shores until March 17 and I'm trying to get a feel for the gap. I guiess you coul say I'm, psyched up about possible premiere of Azumanga Daioh. Time will tell.

4 months? Not bad. That puts Azumanga around late July Early/mid August. I couldn't be happier.
