PM:X Awards 2003 Results ... for those interested

Post by rubyeye » Mon Feb 02, 2004 8:40 pm

Here are The Prepetual Motion 2003 Awards Results. Even though KAMELOT came out on top, and I am thrilled about it, I can't help but think it may not have been had I not mentioned the poll at Kamelot.com's forums.

I know these aren't accurate by any means, but it's fun to see the results...like how the AMV Viewer's Choice Awards will turn out.

Best Albums : Dweeb Metal - Evanescence, Fallen

I don't see how Arena's Contagian scored better than Opeth's Damnation for Prog Rock though. And I'm surprised to see Power of Omens get so much recognition for technical metal, that's kinda cool. Dream Theater definitely deserved a Comeback Disc award, but I don't see how they got fourth for Disappointment Disc... how could you be disappointed after Six Degrees of Inner Crap?

But wow, Dream Theater scored highest for best drummer, best bassist, best keyboardist, and best guitarist.

It's too bad Symphony X didn't have an album to compete this year, though I did see they, deservedly, got the spot for second best live performance. \m/

I have no idea how Mercenary's Everblack didn't make the cut. Probably because no one's ever heard of them.

Yeah. This is disappointed. Merc is definitely a sleeper band. I'm one of the only people I know that owns and regularly listens to Everblack.

Train of Thought was a massive disappointment. It wasn't even prog-metal. Where the hell was the prog? Where the hell was Jordan Rudess? You have one of the best keyboardists on the planet and you don't even let him show of for more than 3 seconds. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence was good.
Dream Theater scores the best players every stinking year. Nobody has the ability to name other players than the guys in D.T.
All the results we disappointing. It's as if nobody from the board voted and left it up to fans of Nu-Metal. I knew that I should have gotten in on the voting....damn.

Yeah, Rudess is easily one of the best keyboardists around but Portnoy is easily one of the best drummers and Petrucci is one of the best guitarists. They wanted to do something heavier, but that doesn't mean it wasn't prog. Jordan Rudess helped write a lot of it, even if you didn't hear him much. So his talent was still evident.

Anyway, almost everyone I know that's into prog can name several members of several bands. The people that can only name DT members are hardly prog fans and wouldn't be at Perpetual Motion.

If you do manage to get to see them in concert, DO NOT hesitate. They are quite possibly the best live show I've seen. So much energy and devotion. Great live performance.

I definitely like Everblack quite a bit and I'd love to see these guys live sometime.
