So ... how does one put their favorite AMVs onto a DVD?

Post by BobbyofAV » Fri Jan 16, 2004 6:10 am

Hello.

So ... how does one put their favorite AMVs onto a DVD to be watched on what passes as their home theater system?

The hardware I have available is a Dual 1.25 GHz G4 PowerMac (Mac OS X 10.2.8 ) with plenty of RAM and hard disk capacity and an Apple Superdrive DVD burner with DVD-R media ready to burn. The relevant software I have available is IMovie 3, IDVD 3, Toast 5, ffmpegX, MPlayer OS X 2, BitPlayer, VLC, and I have lost track of what else. It all looks very promising ... I am sure I have what I need ... but I guess that I am a bit out-of-date and I am not feeling as computer-savvy as I used to. :( (If anyone else remembers System 7.6 and the Quadra 840AV -the good old days for me- then you might understand where I am coming from. Sigh. )

Please forgive me if this plaintive cry for help seems offensive or inappropriate or mind-bogglingly ignorant in any way (such as accidently over-looking some obvious resource that answers this question according to my particular needs) but my efforts to find the answers on my own have led to nothing but frustration (and some corrupted files and wasted discs). The various websites, books, instruction manuals, and application program help files I have read all seemed to have fragments of answers but I have yet to find a complete explanation of what I need to know. If somebody could just point me in the right direction to find the right answers for my particular needs I would be incredibly grateful. And if some truly generous genius were willing to actually explain the process (by publishing a Mac-friendly guide on AnimeMusicVideos.org, perhaps?) then, of course, I would feel compelled to nominate them for sainthood.

This is VERY important to me. I only have access to the very nice, broadband-connected computer system mentioned above when I visit my family. Then I go home where all I have in the way of a computer and online access is a fairly old (and borrowed) Powerbook that does not want to do much of anything anymore, and ... a WebTV (please do not laugh). This can lead to days (even weeks) of serious withdrawl from not being able to watch my favorite anime music videos. Very depressing.

I know I should be able to figure this out on my own, but long, late nights have yielded nothing but frustration and the worried feeling that I am missing something obvious, so I am hoping that some kind soul wil take pity on me.

Please ... HELP ME!!!!
Signing off ...

Bobby, out. B)

The first step, I suppose, would be to obtain high-quality, DVD-compliant MPEG-2 versions of the videos from their creators.

After that, I have no idea, because I know nothing about DVD authoring or Macs. Sorry.
