Best DVD media for distro?

Post by Castor Troy » Sat Jan 03, 2004 9:42 pm

I'm planning to make dvd copies of videos, most specifically the NES Project for a couple of my friends in the anime industry and according to dvdrhelp.com, TDK DVD-R47EA/ACB, Fujifilm, and Ritek seem to be the most compatible with most players.

My Magnavox DVD player is capable of playing any brand of DVD media, especially those no-name brands. Hell, I bet if I authored dvd media to cardboard shaped as a dvd, it would still play it :P But not everyone owns a Magnavox so I can't really make an accurate dvd media test.

What brand would you recommend using for distro? Thanks!

TDK and Fujifilm DVD media seem to be a few good choices.

Right now I'm using Verbatim DVD +R media and so far, they've been working perfectly on all the DVD players I've put them in. Including the X-Box with it's DVD player.

So, you can't really go wrong with either of the ones you've already listed man! :)

I'm an "imation" man myself. They have never let me down as far as CD-R and DVD-R longevity and compatibility. Verbatim and TDK are also good.

Advice: Stay away from Memorex!

But it is so cheap :P

25 pack Memorex DVD-R
25 pack Memorex DVD+R

In terms of compatability it personnally has yet to give me a problem but if it really isn't that good then stay away I guess. But if you're looking for cheap DVD-+R media simply for data storage then it is a decent price for brand name media.

Well, the problem doesn't really lie in the brand of DVD(I believe) but in the DVD player. Older players don't play DVD+/-Rs no matter how "versatile" they are. I'm one of those unfortunate people. ~_~

But luckily the PS2's DVD/DVD-Rom can play anything so far.

Whether or not it will be compatable depends on brand of media, type of media, and player that the media is being placed into.

No, it does depend on the brand of media you choose. Princo, for example, is utter and complete horseshit. I burned some data onto a couple of Princo DVDs about three months ago; within two weeks they were completely unreadable on four different DVD drives.

The surfaces of these DVDs, just in case you're wondering, are pristine.
