OH FUCK SOME PEOPLE DONT LIKE THE SAME THINGS YOU DO AND DO NOT KNOW THE TERMINOLOGY THIS IS BLASPHEMY.
On a more serious note, do you REALLY find it strange that someone that obviously is not infatuated with anime didn't know what anime was?
I'd be damned if I knew every little thing about every little thing, even if YOU don't think it's that little. Cuz chances are, they do. To them, it might as well not exist for all they care.

GI Joe was created by Marvel/Sunbow Productions/Toei Animation.Mroni wrote: Gi joe was not animated in japan thanks lets clear that up. But since you appearantley have not read any of the other post that say that anime just means animation I guess there is no point in continuing.

Did I miss something?
I *DID* read every post before I posted. My point is is that I realize that anime means animation, but when the term anime is used by westerners it is in reference to Japanese animation. I wouldn't go around calling something like Alvin and the Chipmunks or Bugs Bunny anime. They too are animation, but referring to them as anime wouldn't be correct. It can all be seen as a grey area. Just call it all animation so that there will be no confusion. Disney, Warner Bros., Toei Animation...... it's all animation. Mostly celluloid.

I think the only time I ever have to differentiate between anime and western animation is when I'm talking to non-anime fans about anime conventions.
However, if I say anime, I mean japanese animation (like I did just now
). I think anime is a specialized term because proportionally there is just so much more japanese animation compared to other countries (and forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong). Maybe it's just because I've seen a lot of anime, but I'd be hard-pressed to name more Disney, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Rankin-Bass, or Fox Animation shows than japanese animation shows.

To sum it up..
They are all CARTOONS/ANIMATION....BUT:
We use cartoons when referring to american animation mostly, and anime when refering to japanese animation. Some people say anime refers to more mature animation. This is entirely untrue. *cough* Hello Kitty is anime *cough*
Am i right or wrong?

Well I guess anime is easier to say than Japinimation but I'm not going to fault somebody for calling my little pony anime if they so desire. Anyway as for the Toei animation page I'm sorry not only was it gibberish but I didn't see anything that looked remotley gi joe on there.

Huh, That's "dessin animé". Not simply "anime". o-0;.Mroni wrote:Since anime is a french word then add Asterix and the smurfs to your list of anime. This has been covered in new type if you truly want to distinguish animation then call it Japanimation.

Well, in Japan, everything that's cartoons are called animes.
Alright we're not in Japan...
Yeah, let's just go with Japanimation then.
And anime between anime fans.
Nope, I decided not to read the entire thread either.

How bout we change that to reading anime is eastern animation. There are a number of shows out there from other countries in Asia, although it's mostly just from Japan, that are considered anime. Narrowing it down to one specific country rather than a larger, more generalized area is too much of a tunnel-vision type syndrome...thing.Tenken wrote:To sum it up..

Saying Japanimation is acceptable, but mostly only to newbies. That guy from the Daily Show once said something about a widespread Japanimation invasion. I found it hilarious.
Mroni wrote:I hate stupid nips that hate being called japs so its Japanimation oh my god!!! the word Japan has jap in it!!! must be a racist word! oh no!!! Dont call any british people brits or australians aussies!
Calling somebody a Jap is like calling a caucasion a cracker, a native american an ingine(or something like that), a spanish person a Spich, etc., etc. It doesn't matter if the slanderous word is part of the original word, it's a deragatory term that was widely used after the Pearl Harbor incident. Besides where would they have come up with the slander if not from the name?
I'd like to see you go up to a group of Japanese people and after your concussion goes away then tell me how many broken ribs they gave you!
“General Ugly!” he yelled. “The squirrels are attacking! Have you decided to join the Alliance of Bamboo?”
