I asked for Record of Lodoss - Chronicles of the Heroic Knight for Christmas, and I was just wondering if its any good. I got the Record of Lodoss OVA box set (13 Episodes) and I really liked it, so I'm thinking it should be pretty good, please give me your thoughts.

Err... if you're expecting something like the OVA, you'll be disappointed. The series, in my opinion, isn't nearly as good as the OVA. The series seems to be less serious, and has these slightly annoying chibi interludes. Nonetheless, if you're really interested in the Lodoss story (which I was), it would be good to see once.

Although the Welcome to Lodoss Island manga is as funny as hell, you should pick up a copy if you really like Lodoss stuff.

I disagree with Flint on that one, mainly due to episode 7 of the series, I won't spoil it for you, but thats easily one of the best in the series.

As a whole it's not AS serious as the OAV, but its still a worthwhile watch for fans of Lodoss. It starts of pretty low though, but the animation gets much much better by the 2nd disc.

Chronicles is still pretty good though. As Flint said it lacks the seriousness of the OVAs....though in all fairness Chronicles was the first thing I saw, I bought the OVAs after and was like

It's still pretty good though. I rented the first 3 vhs's so I had to watch it dubbed...and I still liked it. Though if anything it has the most beautiful intro song ever....

And the Chibi scenes are quite uh ... "special" ...though still amusing. Chronicles as I mentioned before has much more comedic moments in it... I think you'll like it. ^-^

don't worry, i've seen the first 12 episodes (first 4 VHS tapes) i rented them and watched them. I didnt like what they did with Parn's voice, sounds really cheesy, but other than that i pretty much liked it. I was just wondering about after the story with Ashram and Parn, like the new kid with the purple hair (forgot his name) either way, i'll see if i like it b4 i watch it, but if people like it it makes me more excited about getting it!!!!

The new kid with the purple hair is Spark...or, as they like to call him in the Japanese version, "Sparku." They should have just called him Sparkles.

The Spark story is actually pretty decent, and easily holds up to the Parn/Ashram deal. I like what they do with Karla a lot better in the series as well. BTW, I do suggest you watch it subbed, it loses alot of its seriousness in the dub.

so Karla makes a re-appearance, is she still the theif in the OAV's, or has she jumped bodies again. Either way, i'm glad the story is pretty good, its made me a little more excited about getting it for X-Mas (as if i wasn't already excited)!!!
