Effects and Transition consistency?

Post by danielwang » Sat Dec 13, 2003 3:42 pm

What's the general trend?

Keep transition classes "method and style" consisten within a scene group/class?

OR

Change the transition for every scene?

I'm authoring a AMV now, and I've decided on a few transition. I don't want them to be too conspicious, so I want to knowf these are "staples" useable anytime or not so good:

Straight "sharp" cut between two clips.

Straight "sharp" cut with black frame in the middle.
(better than first?)

Put the second scene in the layer behind, then the first scene alpha goes down (transparent) while zooming in.

Directed (direction) motion blurs. Use with sharp cut or fade while two motion attributes are the same (Character is wielding somethhing, Vehicle is moving, Explosion, Zoom in) or like that. Blur first clip, then fade into next clip and unblur.

Original:
Mask the videos, and do it like in "Odorikuruu" except with similar scene class, in the style of original screensplit scenes.
Clip1: Chara1 staring in awe
Clip 1 is pushed *slightly* to the left and another panel lides in...
Clip2: Left, Chara 1 staring in awe, Right, Chara 2 staring in disbelief
Clip 1 is pushed all the way out while the other panel envelopes the screen
Clip3: Chara2 only

Original maybe:
Flash to another video in increasing framenumbers until next clip is dominant. Requires a good percussive or particle sound.
Clip1: Chara5 running from viewer
Clip2: Flash one 2 frames, Flash again 5 frames, Flash again 7 frames, Flash again 12 frames, Flash again 1 frame 1 frame and 1 frame quickly.
Clip2: On the last percussive note, switch completely to Clip2

Cheesy and obvious:
If character or subject (Must be dominant subject) is standing, mask it out and then fade in next scene. If moving, move the mask to reveal next scene.

Gundam Seed Makes It Easy!:
Nobody can tell the difference between one star/space scene and the other. Any transition such as wipe, vector wipte, sharp cut or curtains will NOT be noticed.

It depends on each individual video. Basically it just comes down to do YOU think it works?

He can't think. Hell, he won't even validate what he's told. Give him input and he'll use it.

To answer your question, danielwang, the style of the month is to use every transition at your disposal. Randomize them; it doesn't matter if they fit the music or not.

I do what I was taught in Media Arts. 'Simplicity Is Bliss' Streight defacto cuts. However, if I were to insert a black frame between cuts, I'd likely put a subliminal text message on that frame to see if I could brainwash people.

*blinks*

I think I may have just thaught of a way to brainwash contest judges... :O

No, in Evangelion, if you look carefully enough, you can see the tape used on the film between cuts. :|

I was talking about the subliminal messages. I mean, just look at the opening sequence, for Pen-Pen's sake.

Unless you're trying to please the crowds, who seem to like flashy effects and whatnot.

But It's Tricky to do something like that well.

Did anyone not see that coming? *braces self for imminent smackdown*
