The Twelve Kingdoms

Post by angelx03 » Fri Dec 12, 2003 1:31 am

I've just finished the first 5 episodes on DVD, annd all I have to say is that it's pretty morbid. Though the overall plot may seem cliché, the characters seems refreshing in my opinion. Hopefully, this will be promising. Any thoughts about it? Oh yeah, here's the synopsis based from the Anime News Network:
Plot Summary: Yoko Nakajima, an unhappy high school student, is one day suddenly faced with a strange man who swears allegiance to her. After a battle with demon-like beasts, he then takes her to another world along with two of her classmates. There, her appearance has changed and she can understand the language even though her classmates cannot. But their status as "Kaikyaku" (people who come from Earth) makes them hunted fugitives, so they wander the land of the 12 countries, simply trying to survive and to figure out the reason why they were brought to this world.

I'll once again reiterate my love for this series. While the plot is a bit common to the sci/fi-fantasy book crowd, there's not many animated series like it.

There's a thread lower down where it's mistitled The Seven Kingdoms that might give you more information.

I think I saw a preview for this at AX, does it have unbeleivable beautiful animation that goes at like 40fps sometimes? Atleast in a scene with two girls in this crazy sword fight?

40fps? I don' know bout' that, but it is pretty good.

I have to say, a lot of anime boasts it's tilted toward girls, but the show still turnes up more male fans then girls. 12 kingdoms however is really a show I could see a girl liking, and any guy (Who can put things like fan service aside). Personaly, I am getting so sick of fan service that I pretty much wont watch a new anime if it has it. I have only seen the first five epp's, and while I haven't jumped to get the rest of the series, it still deserves a lot of respect (When I get a DVD player in my room, then I will get the rest, my parents would not aprove of the show).

The animation and music are great too, the only thing I didn't like was the quality of the DVD, it studered every once and a while (Like a lot of anime work shop DVDs do), but this is miniscule when compared to the plot and development of the charactors, even in the begining.

Does anyone know how long the series is?

So for everyone who liked it. Did you instantly like it, or did it take 8 episodes or so?
