is there a way to ad a "letterbox" effect to my vi

Post by nemesis310 » Wed Dec 03, 2003 10:20 pm

im making my first AMV and until i get my dvd drive installed next week im making a practice video with fansub episodes. is there a way to add a letterbox effect (like the black bars at the top and bottom like in widescreen movies) so that it hides the subtitles? i know that with fansubs i cant get rid of them altogether but i am hoping that i can atleast hide them from view. i am using premiere 6.5 if that helps. thanks in advance

you can do this with both Vdub and Avisynth after you export your vid from premiere/wmm/magix/ what ever you use.

With vdub all you have to do is crop, same with Avisynth. The guides cover the cropping in Avisynth. In Vdub you need to select a filter, but it wont mean you have to use it, it just allows you the option to crop, which is given to you in the fitler box.

That's odd. I could have sworn I already answered this question with a link to the guides.

Oh wait, that's right, I <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... 5">did!</a>

There's dozens of funky ways to get rid of subs... so read the guides, yea. And maybe experiment a bit, too.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Too bad most of those methods suck ( They either get rid of fottage or blur it, except for some scenes in which you can't tell) except photoshoping every frame, which we all have time for.

Thusly, Cropping wins. Just take a 4:3 anime and make it 16:9. :P

I must agree and say to go with the cropping.

Seriously, get a DVD-ROM (prefereably DVD-R enabled), a good computer and lots of ram and hard disk space. Get it NOW.

Because downloaded footage is a No No No.

 :o :? :( :x

Yes, that's about the opinion you'll get.

Did I mention DivX SUCKS?

Adobe Premiere, AE, Ulead, will NOT import or be able to use DivX.
Even with a AVISynth DirectShowSource() file.

[I came up with and tried the thing above :) no luck]
