When giving an opinion on a video, what do you look for???

When I am reviewing a video, I look mostly at how the footage and the song match. Like if the song says "I want to give you a kiss" I expect to see a romantic scene, not someone getting killed.

So what do you guys look for???

I look for each of the qualities rateable and then give them the coresponding scores they deserve based on the guidelines.

Ditto, although if its very good or very bad, I sometimes switch number 5 and 4.

First I wonder what was good and bad about a video. What parts did I enjoy and what parts did I not enjoy.

I jot down some notes, rewatch the vid, and scribble some more notes about what I liked and didn't like and this time try and provide myself a reason for my criticisms and praises.

I then go through the vid in 10 to 20 second segments and repeatedly rewatch that small part to see what the editor did to try and craft that particualr sections. If I like it, I make notes. If I didn't like it I make notes.

Once I've gone through the whole video, I start to right up my review based on the notes I've taken. The only portion that really gets its scored based on most of this is the action/editting.

My overall score is based more on how much I liked the video as a sum of its parts, not necessarily the parts themselves.

Reviewability is based on whether I like the song and animes used, and what the odds are of me wanting to watch the video again or recommend it to others.

As to your comments, sometimes I like it when an editor matches together scenes with the lyrics. Sometimes that technique feels like overkill because the editor is trying so hard to match thing up with the lyrics (as is occasionally the case in MJs vids

).

What reviews really come down to, however, is your own personal tastes and judgement. There's no "right way" to review a video. And so long as you back up your scores with some meaningful explanation as to why you gave a particular score, most editors won't quible with you that much.

originality: unused song or anime or combination, novelty of editing style, novelty of interpretation/theme of song or anime
video/audio capture: type of source, quality of compression, appearance of funny artifacts/glitches
action: timing of scenes to music (beat synch, music synch), appropriate scene selection (lyric synch, mood synch)
lip: self explanatory
effects: timing with music, appropriateness with music, appropriateness with theme and scene selection
effort: thoughtfulness of scene selection, overall "tidiness," complexity of editing/effects
review: how well it kept my interest, how memorable it was
overall: how consistent the video was to the overall theme, how moving/effective the video was

what goes most into how much i like a video (reviewability) is:
how natural the video feels with the music
there is a purpose or direction and the video stays with it
