Adding audio to a video

Post by billy_wires » Fri Nov 28, 2003 2:06 pm

Anything out there that will do this flawlessly? Ulead won't, and neither will video impression. I'm thinking of something free, like freeware, not warez, crackz, or anything bootlegged or illegal.

It would help if you could elaborate. Can you not add audio to a file?Or is the problem the file size is to big when you do add it.We can probably help but we need more info.

Agreed. We need more info. I don't have a problem adding audio to either Video Studio or Media Studio. Heh, or even Pictureshow 2 for that matter. Which application and version of ULead software are you using?

Tru dat, tru dat.

Just kidding. Yeah, well, it skips on scene changes when I use Ulead, and Video Impression skips at random points. So, I want to put my audio over the video without the damn skips. Damn. But I know how to add the audio. Just not flawlessly.

Hrm.. I used MPEG 1. Perhaps my audio rip just sucked, as in the specs didn't match the projected playback rate, or something like that.

If you use TMPEG to convert your huffy file to Mpeg-1 you can always marry the audio to the video in a nice ceremony there. My media studio skips in the rendered file no matter what format I used. I use cooledit pro to rip my audio off my cds and make it a wav file.

The only suggestion I really have for you is render your video into a lossless codec from your ulead program and put it through your choice of Virtual dub or Tmepg to convert it into whatever you want your final to be. Select the wav file your song is and render it final. You will want to make sure your audio and video begin at the same time (if you make a video bumper at the beginning, you'll need to compensate for that in the audio file) or it will be out of sync.

1. Where do you get cooledit? Is it free?
2. What is a lossless codec?
3. Would I then use Ulead to insert the wav file, or something else?

Thanks so much for all your help, I am finding it much clearer now, outside of the three above points. Once again, thanks for your help. :P

No it's not free, I'm one of those fools that actually pay for their editors :p
You can get it on ebay for about 60 bucks nowdays. You really don't need it unless you are going to editing the song or other audio.

The most popular lossless codec is huffyuv. You can find a download link in the guides for it. Use it for editing, use it for rendering your video project out of Ulead. In fact, save time and file size by making your render file (the one you create in Ulead like you would if you were making your mpeg 1 finished version) a huffy file. Once you install the codec, it'll be available in your editor with all the other codec choices.

Don't use Ulead to insert the audio file. Make you amv along side the audio, so you have the sync correct, but render the video only like I said. Then use virtual dub (or Tmpeg, I believe that is free...it's been awhile) to make the finshed video. Tmpeg is my favorite, because it's simple and makes great mpeg 1 and 2 files. In Tmpeg you'll be given a choice for your video and audio track. Choose your wav file and then render it there.
