Black Metal is.............................ok.
Only BM bands that really standout are Dimmu, Old Man's Child, Dissection and that's all I can think of.
oh and I use to hate Cradle and I know many hardcore BM fans loathe them and disregard them as a joke, but I find all the BM traits in their music and they're good.

I can't stand the vocals the vast majority of the time.
Still, I like a few songs by Dimmu Borgir and Soilwork, and Opeth's grown on me to the point where I desire to get a CD of theirs. (Are all those death metal?)

Death metal: growled vocals, professional/balanced production, emphasis on mainly '4' time structures. More room for technical instrumentalism.
Black metal: screamed vocals, treble-heavy or deliberately incompetent ("necro") production, emphasis largely on '6' or '3' time structures. Heavier use of keyboards and extreme blastbeat drumming at the expense of guitar/bass solos.
Or that's what the definition used to be. Nowadays these kids got their goddamn Swedish melodic death and symphonic black metal and folk/viking/techno/polka crossovers and their goddamn Earth-Crisis-biting NSWOTM bands, and you cain't hardly tell up from down no more.
That's about it.

Shin Hatsubai is a Premiere-free studio. Insomni-Ack is habitually worthless.
