Oh now come on, I don't think anyone participating in this thread is actually taking it even the least bit seriously. And the part last night when I was drunk, hey that's just classic. I mean seriously, how often do I get completely smashed and go around trying to have an indepth debate over video formats?

Bottom line is that people think differently. Some peeps think it's best to use OGM for video with multiple audio and video tracks, some peeps think other stuff is better, on the whole none of us can predict the future. Debating about it is fun but it's not really gonna have much impact in the long run. Seriously, who here, when the mass debates and arguments do break out, is gonna participate? Personally I had my fill with PAR vs PAR2, and even enough with the OGM haters (who blindly reject any new formats, including Matroska if they were aware of it). Debating with you guys and gals is fun, but only cause I strongly suspect you're not letting it get to you and freakin out over it. Good arguments all around, but face it, when the real fighting begins, most likely nothing any of us brought up will be put into play. *shrugs*

I personally like it when in depth discussions start. Both sides bring about information to support their argument and it encourages me to learn more about the topic. I can honestly say I've spent a fair amount of time over the past few days researching and toying with svcd, ogm and matroska due to these debates.

I never really understood why Matt kept saying 'you'll never get a source that makes use of that kind of stuff'. Ever anime in existence has TONs of duplicate frames and a lot of anime have hybrid content. Sure, it's more work than most bastard warezors are willing to do for their releases, but it's an excellent feature to be able to eliminate duplicates and preserve motion perfectly.

You actually answered your own question:

Those "bastard warezors" are the ones who are getting the most use out of it as far as making it into a distribution format. Matroska might be quite handy for some people, sorta like how Huffyuv is handy for editing, but it's future as a real distribution format is pretty shaky. Hell even OGM is pretty shaky, but currenly it's standing on firmer ground than anything else. The problem with Matroska is timing. I mean by the time it gets really well developed, connection speeds will be great enough that "bastard warezors" will be just skippin the reencoding phase altogether and will just start straight ripping the .vobs off the DVDs for download...which in fact is already happening in some circles. *shrugs*

Well, dunno about you, but I'd rather get something IVTCed, vfred and filtered than a vob file with it's interlacing, duplicate frames, and grainy shit.

The difference between someone like you and someone like me is that I don't need my education handed to me on a silver platter with a big red bow across it and then spoon fed to me. My encodes and contributions to general net.society over the years speak for themselves. While people like you stay stagnant and unchanging, wandering around looking for people to teach you, people like me just keep improving. Cosntantly refining our techniques, learning through the mistakes and shortcomings of other people and striving to reach levels beyond our current capactiy.
