A group is its own worse enemy

Post by Quu » Wed Oct 29, 2003 1:29 pm

I read this article a while back...

http://www.shirky.com/writings/group_enemy.html

Though it deals with MMORPG alot... it has a great deal to bring about the current state of the amv group
Lead me not to temptation, for I have deadlines

YEs, so very ture... And as the groups gets larger, it gets worse... To me the social view of AMVs no longer have the feel of a Hobby but more of a political movement...

An really, that's all it is: a hobby. People need to take themselves less seriously :?

I take it seriously because I care about the big picture : ) or, as Scott Evil said, "On the whole..."

Hmm I do get the understanding of this paper. good read, I have been in a few groups that started out good and when it god bigger it crumbled.

we have a lot of members..

In retrospect it is inevitable as a fan base to grow larger than what was expected, look at Star Trek. WE are just the new generation with cels and plushies.

Every single message board or internet community I have ever been in has had incredible poor management. Moderators arent chosen for their ability to settle disputes and keep peace. Rules are ambiguous instead of clear, simple, and straight forward. And sometimes you just get users that are out to raise hell. Almost all communities get this way as they grow. The only way to fix the problem is to adapt.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab
