What the fuckety fuck fuck?
Okay, maybe this was already brought up. If it was, I apologize, but . . . this is WRONG. Okay, you know the manga Wish? By CLAMP? Ummm, I'm PRETTY sure that's a shounen-ai manga . . . and yet . . . THEY TRANSLATED IT AS A GIRL!! WHY?? WHY WAS THIS DONE?? DO THEY THINK PEOPLE ARE CLOSE MINDED?? IT'S JUST WRONG TO FUCK WITH THE TRANSLATION LIKE THAT!!
. . . . um, yeah. I have calmed down now. But seriously, does anyone know why this was done?

The Magnificent Seven [Britt has just shot a fleeing bandit off his horse.]
Chico: That was the greatest shot I've ever seen.
Britt: The worst! I was aiming at the horse.

The angels and devils in Wish are gender-neutral, and look like fairly masculine women or very effeminate men. This is actually played on in Volume 2, where Shuichiro's father thinks Kohaku is a girl. I've seen tranlations where both Kohaku and Koryu were male, both were female, or one was male and the other female.
When TokyoPop translated it, they decided to make all of the angels female and all the devils (except the two cat-devils) male. I don't know the full reasons, but I'm guessing it was at least partially to reduce the implied shonen-ai factor. Why they might choose to do that, I've got no idea; your best bet would be to ask the translator and editors (Ray Yoshimoto, Jamie S. Rich, Jake Forbes, and Jill Freshney).

Is it just me who thinks that the ending of Wish sucked ass?
Because, it's like "It's great that you made a manga series under 10 volumes, but this just says to me 'we were tired of drawing pretty people and keeping up a storyline, so we rushed the ending and made it all happy-like'"

Hell yes! I was disappointed with the ending. It did seem that they rushed it...though i still like it...but it definately could have been better...SQ wrote:Is it just me who thinks that the ending of Wish sucked ass?

Really? I always came off with the idea that Kohaku was a girl...the style in which she was drawn just makes me think of Kohaku as female, even the music video for it...that's just the impression that I get. Besides in Koryu's case, he's just a fine looking bish ^^JHU wrote:The angels and devils in Wish are gender-neutral, and look like fairly masculine women or very effeminate men. Ah yes, I have that music video....
I actually planned on making an AMV out of it (Somehow...I didn't figure out how, yet) but then I thought it cliche since it was already a music video and there's that whole "Don't steal from other AMVs" thing...
Or something.
And to me, there's only 3 books of Wish.
Kohaku is put to sleep. The End. To be continued?
That's how it is for me. =p
