Is there a boundary on explicit lyrics?

Post by koronoru » Tue Oct 07, 2003 5:13 pm

I had an idea for a video involving Sarah Jones's Your Revolution, which I heard once years ago on college radio. I didn't really remember the details of the song, so I did a Google search to see if I could find lyrics, and the first thing I found was a web page all about ongoing legal battles surrounding the track, because the FCC tried to fine a radio station for playing it. The claim was that it was obscene. That prompted me to wonder: we've heard a lot about Phade's policy of "no excessive nudity" in locally-hosted videos, but is there a boundary on what is and isn't acceptable in lyrics? If I did go ahead and make a video with "Your Revolution" as the soundtrack, would it be welcome on the org server? I've certainly heard lyrics in videos I downloaded from here, that the FCC wouldn't permit American radio stations to put on the air... but is it just anything goes, or what?

Generally, we don't care about lyrics. If you submit it to a convention, though, they may have limits as to what lyrics are too excessive. Check with the contest coordinator in these cases, as each con has different criteria.
