Thoughts on "CB- Brain Scratch" possile spoilers

Post by Propyro » Mon Oct 06, 2003 6:01 am

i was jsut thinking about that episode of Cowboy Bebop called Brain scratch. THat weird cult, can't remember their name, but they would copy the information on your brain copy it on to a computer and repeat it over and over again so technicaly one would remain a concious entity forever.

Now, if they did that then wouldn't you end up being a single thought being repeated over and over again rather then a seperate concious entity that is capable of thinking for it's self if that copy was all that was left of you?

Depending on how sophisticated the computer is and what programs are are available to allow for more thought(like an AI) The thought conciousness of the brain on the computer would be able to expand..

But if you were to just copy the information in the brain onto a computer.. Then you would only know about everything up to the point just before the brain was put into the computer. So basically it's like backing up your hard drive onto another hard drive and the files are read-only. But the backup is only one file that you can't get into. The digital frame of the computer wouldn't allow for expansion or extra thoughts as the actual brain would make paths for new memories.

So, it just depended on what kind of programs could be run with the copy of the brain on the computer...

Then again, there could be a way with bio-technology and bio-processors where the processor is a housing unit of an AI that requires human thought patterns to run. Essentially creating a computer that thinks on its' own...

I don't know.. I'm just rambling on and on.. :P

Of course, now you're getting into Ghost in the Shell background. Also, there was an episode of Batman Beyond that had a guy that had his memories uploaded to a computer.

what do you think i was doing when i made this thread? :P

any wasy yea, i didn't think to look at the possibilities of bioprocessors ... but then again it didn't look like the technology in bebop was that advanced yet.
