What is excessive?

Post by Roslom » Tue Sep 16, 2003 12:19 am

I want to post my first AMV but one thing that troubles me is the excessive violence requirement. What is excessive? Even though there are a few violent scenes within the video it is maybe a total of 10-15 seconds worth. Is there a general rule to go by or do I just take a chance and pray to the anime gods I don't get banned?

The best way I can think about it is...

Get a hold of Phade... Try a transfer with him and get his opinion on if it's to violent or not. If that doesn't work, tell him that you're going to upload it to the server via FTP like you were to upload it for local download.. Give Phade the ftp info and password and everything... Go to the confirm download screen to test it out... If Phade thinks it's too violent then you can cancel the file or he will delete it..

I don't know.. Just get a hold of Phade and let him know.. That's what I would do...

I think he means "excessive" as in "Shit like Ninja Resurrection". That kind of excessive violence. A little bit of fighting is ok.

Subjective

Post by medv4380 » Sun Sep 28, 2003 5:56 pm

The Biggest problem with the rule from what i've seen
is that it seems to be subjective

Just for example if you take the Top 100 on the star scale
You'll find a couple that clearly bend or break the rules

I know the vid i made of Akira and Purple Pills is definatly too violent
Akira may be possable to make into an AMV without
crossing the line but Because i Used Purple Pills and matched
the scenes up it clearly crosses the line.

So it leaves me with a slight problem
If i upload it and it is frowned apon I'd most likly
get banned. If i upload it and it is popular
i probably wont be but i might be.

In the end i'm just going to have to get a Reliable server of my own
to host my vid on a direct download but that means it will never be on the star scale and thus i'll never truly know how it ranks against other people.

If there's blood and intestines flying everywhere, it's excessive violence.

And after saying that, I went out and bought the Ninja Ressurection DVD and said "I'm gonna do a video to 'Spiders' by System Of A Down.... Oh fuck. I can't do that coz Phade may well virtually kick my ass for putting a very very very violent vid on the server." And that really sucks, coz I'm gona use the guides and get perfect quality (both sound and vid) from it. Bout bloody time I started making stuff on par with the good AMV authors, Like Beowulfs "Hail To The Thief", It's the best video I have.

Get yoself a server then and use a direct link. Maybe someone can 'lend' the space.

Someone made a thread about that in GA I think.

Think I may just have to do that. After I get the internet at home though. Wonder how much it will cost....

hahaha, under 50 mb? Using the guides, its not likely to be. I want my next few DVD source vids to look as perfect as inhumanly possible. Probably around 70 mb. But thanks anyway.
