To pay or not to pay? That's not the question.... [new PC]

Post by Otohiko » Wed Sep 17, 2003 9:24 pm

Well, if all goes through well, and my parents lend me $1000 for two weeks, tomorrow I should be walking to my local store and putting a deposit towards the $1300 canadian (tax included)=900 or so American that my new, personal (that is, mine and mine alone) PC will cost.

Athlon 2400+, 512 DDR400 RAM, GeForce Ti5200 128mb, 80GB hard drive, 15" LCD screen. Hopefully, will be here in a couple of days.

Think it's a fair deal or am I being ripped off?

Actually, I don't care whether you think one way or another, as this is my final answer and I'm not changing the configuration.

I'm hoping that the free computing time gained by my exclusive ownership of the machine will warrant more opportunities for AMVing. Anyways...

Wish me luck. I hope my dad isn't gonna be oh-so-money-conscious and won't mind being a thousand short for just two weeks... otherwise, I'm screwed again.

Meh, sounds reasonable. Though personally i wouldn't of picked and LCD monitor. To much blurry-ness when I play my games.

I know what you mean, but...

1) I'm used to the blur by now and it actually helps me understand the motion in the game, and I mostly play slower, lower-FPS games (i.e. Flight sims)

2) I need the PC for work, which means I'll be spending hours staring at text. And trust me, that's TONS easier on your eyes if you do it on an LCD. Especially since I've been using LCD for a good two years now.

Doesn't sound that bad...though I haven't been computer shopping in a while.

This is cheaper than building my own actually - were I to buy the parts, I'd have it for a good 100-200 more. Since it's a package that you buy from them, and they put it together to your liking, it's kind of better, more time- and money-saving than just building it yourself. Though, by all means I could.

As for Athlon 64 - hell, I'd have one of those. I'd also like a Radeon 9800 instead of the damn GeForce. But you know what? That ain't gonna happen with my money. It's good enough for me that I get a decent processor and a present-generation card, and that's enough for me to be happy with what I have to be happy with. Anyways... if all goes well, I go to the bank in a few hours and get that deposit...

Excuse my thread hijacking, but I'm also looking into this laptop. I get a 12% discount at that store, putting the price to £1,143 (US$1,787.8806). The price is high, so I'm dubious, and before anyone suggests anything like building my own or what have you, that's out of the question.

Most of the cost is being covered parentally.

I'd say you're fine? i paid2muchhello

See? See?

fuckenshitfuckfuckfuck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess what? No money for me. All I asked for is a friggin 600CAN/400USD, and nada. Not a shit. Look at other stores first, they say.

Thankfully, tomorrow is another day... but, they say hurricane, so that might not work either.

Which probably shelves a made decision from being executed until next week. How dumb is that?

To some extent, that makes me very pissed at how cheap my father is and how low he'll stoop to get his hand on the cheapest deal possible, even if it's not his money, on the other hand, it makes me pissed that my job can't even make enough to cover my debt to an extent where I'm actually free to spend when I want.

So, I'm gonna stroll to the bank now, get a few large bills, and hope that tomorrow I can go and use them as deposit (since I don't have enough on my account to actually pay for the whole PC, only about 60%). Weather-permitting of course...

:?
