Hiragana or katakana
There are two alphebets in Japanese and I don't know which to memorize. Which one is more commonly used? Or are they both commonly used?

They're both just Kana, or alphabetical japanese (compared to kanji, symbolical japanese). Hiragana is used for common words and stuff like lower case english. Katakana is used for adopted foreign words, proper nouns (names and stuff). You need to know both, but since they're structurally exactly the same system (just different glyphs), that souldn't be too hard. The hard part of language is syntax, once you know how to properly express what you want to express, it's all just different kinds of scribbles.

hiragana, katakana, kanji, you need them all to know Japanese. They are all used frequently.
