Subtitle question
Ok, one of the cardinal rules to making music videos is that you should avoid using subtitled footage when at all possible. My question is this: I have a set of Ranma DVDs that I'd originally purchased a while back to make AMVS with, but unfortunately, unlike what the advertising stated, the Chinese subtitles couldn't be turned off. So I'm left with 143 episodes of Ranma ready to go, but with Chinese subtitles. I know that English subtitles can be distracting at times, primarily because either they are unreadable and/or they have little to nothing to do with the sequence they appear in. Would the Chinese subtitles (which are readable, as the footage is being ripped from a DVD) be as much of a sin as English subtitles would be? If so, what would people suggest doing to work around them?

Probably not since most people don't know Chinese and won't bother to stop and read it like English ones. You should try using the logoaway filter ( at least that's what i think it's called ) in virtural dub, that can help remove some.

While they might be in Chinese, they would probably still be pretty distracting (it's still about the same as a recurring logo or the like). If you can't edit around them (choosing mostly scenes with no dialogue), you can check out the subtitle removal guide and see which method would work best in each case.
