Seriously when was the last time you saw a computer come equipped with a video card that had less than 4MB of ram on it? I think about 5 - 7yrs is about right. Any new computer will have a decent video card on it. One that atleast does 2D overlay.
There is a known problem with using varible frame size audio codecs inside AVI files. So ABR & VBR both have problems.
There are still ways to work with files that have VBR audio. You can use Vdubmod to cut sections out while keeping the VBR audio intact. Then you can demux the vbr mp3 stream, decompress it and then remerge it back in. If need be
